Keeping it safe yet stylish with Karl Terry Roofing Contractors

I set up my own company, Karl Terry Roofing Contractors Ltd in 1993 in Wittersham, Kent after working for my Dad’s company previously. I felt there was a gap in the market for a traditional company with traditional values. I’m proud of our commitment to customer service, and I find that by setting out clear goals and expectations with my customers from the beginning, unforeseen circumstances are avoided further down the line.

Image of Karl Terry, Karl Terry Roofing Contractors  I would attribute our success mainly down to the niche-ness of      what we offer – not that many roofing companies do peg tiling, at   least in our local area. We’ve also won a lot of big contracts off  the back of a positive reputation, which keeps the work i  interesting and fun. No project is ever the same, and we work on  some stunning properties! We were also proud to recently be  awarded the UK Roofing Industry’s most prestigious Heritage  awards for the 4th time in 10 years.

There’s a team of 13 of us, including myself. We’re like a big  family, and about half of the guys with me today were there when  I set the company up. I like to think the work life that I’ve built  here is partly attributed to their interest in staying, as I do really value my team and want the best for them.

It also helps that we get to work on so many great projects, such as Guitarist Jeff Beck’s Garage. This one was a challenge because it was a new property, oak framed but needed to look like it was old. It took about 6 weeks of intensive work, but we think the results look great!

I attach a great deal of importance to health and safety, and think really it should be at the forefront of any business like ours. I engage an external health and safety consultation every year to ensure we stay on top of it. I’ll usually close the office for a couple of days, as I find that works better for more intensive training rather than ad hoc which doesn’t always work so well. We’ll work through things like working at heights and abrasive wheels to make sure everyone’s comfortable in what they’re doing, and staying safe.

We’re really happy to be a part of the TrustMark scheme, as we feel it gives customers that extra reassurance they’re looking for. Having someone working on your home is very personal, and with the kinds of projects we do they can be quite lengthy. It’s important for customers to know they can trust us to work to the brief, and deliver on time. We will always strive to surpass their expectations!
